Can a promise ring at twenty five turn in to an engagement?

A friend of my mine recieved a promise ring at twenty five from someone who is six years her senior after a little over 12 months of dating. I was in shock, a promise ring at twenty fivewith a line saying that one day we plan on getting engaged? No timeline? Just vibes?

I thought promise rings were given to your partner when you are in high school when you actually could not afford an engagement ring and could not legally get married. Not when your twenty five and thirty-something.

I was truly stunned seeing that instagram story. Yes I found out on an instagram story. I was then sent a picture of the ring and it was a small silver band. I was sick all day. Maybe, I did not know my friend at all and maybe I never will. Maybe, she is not the person I though she was. Maybe, I made her up. What if I made her whole personality up. I probably did.

My personal issues are that I thought I was this persons friend and to find out on an instgram story felt horrible. We see each other every week and this is how you choose to tell people? Second that you would think that a promise ring is the best thing you could do. That this ring is the most amazing thing for a man to give you with no timeline for this engagement.

Why did you accept a bread crumb of a possible future? Hes older than you and shouldn’t be giving you a promise ring like a fiften years old. You are twenty five years old and deserve more. For your sake I hope you do get engaged.

I could never image accepting something like that and posting it on social media the way you did. This is where I can aknowlege that I am projecting myself on to you. Because if I did what you did no one in my family would take it or me or us seriously. I would have everyone talking behind my back. I guess like how I am doing to you.

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this is love. Or maybe it’s just another curated performance and I was never part of the audience to begin with.
