I hate social media with all I have. Yet I am still addicted. I absoultely hate instagram, tiktok, snapchat, kick, facebook etc. It’s arguably one of the worst things ever invented.
I don’t care if it’s your birthday. I don’t care that you’re at Disneyland. I don’t need to see your monthly recap story. Every post feels the same—either painfully curated or not crashing out hard enough to feel real.
And just so we’re clear: I know I’m a hypocrite. My own content is curated. I’m not crashing out either. And yet, I am still watching your Instagram story, scrolling on tiktok. Honestly, I am invested on how your birthday went and eat up this curated life you created.
No one is honest. Everyone is showing off the things that they can not afford. Chasing ideas that arent original so why do we continue to participate in this cycle? I believe it’s FOMO. We are so worried that other people are having a better life than us so it pushes us to cyber stalk them until we can justify to ourselves that our life is just as good or better. I do this. I am sure alot of people do to.
But will this ever end?
Probably not.
So now the question shifts:
What role will you play?
What role will I play?
Because honestly, this is starting to feel dystopian.
